Statewide Roundtables Reveal Needs of Logistics Sector

Indiana's strength in the logistics industry is not debatable. According to the Ports of Indiana, the "Crossroads of America" ranks first among states in interstate access, 9th in total rail miles and among the top 15 in airfreight and maritime shipping.

While significant geographic and infrastructure advantages give the Hoosier state a competitive edge in the supply chain management sector (a $1.3 trillion industry nationally), industry leaders believe Indiana has yet to develop a strategy to take full advantage of our assets. The Conexus Indiana initiative has just completed a series of roundtables throughout the state to solicit feedback toward such a strategy, moving Indiana one step closer to having a comprehensive plan in place to make it global logistics powerhouse.

Indiana's "Insourcing" Opportunity

For many years now, we've heard a lot about job outsourcing, or "offshoring" � moving manufacturing operations overseas to take advantage of cheaper labor markets. The trend has been publicized extensively by commentators like Thomas Friedman ("The World Is Flat") and was a staple of political rhetoric during the election season.
