The state's seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate fell to 4.7 percent in April. The rate was 5.1 percent in March. However, the Indiana Department of Workforce Development says total April employment in the state decreased 3,100 from March, but was up 2,800 from one year ago.

Community Health Network Foundation is investing $36,000 in the workforce of tomorrow. The foundation is awarding $3,000 scholarships to 12 high school students committed to earning a health and life sciences degree at an Indiana college or university.

A business incubator in Grant County is a bit closer to being launched. The Grant County Innovative Network Center’s business incubator has been in development for about three years. Officials say the incubator would help entrepreneurial businesses become more successful, more quickly.

An expert in life sciences says Indiana needs to focus on connecting its research and venture capital assets to successfully grow its life sciences sector. Mary Walshok from the University of California at San Diego says San Diego has been able to create one of the world's most successful life sciences clusters. However, she says it didn't happen overnight. She says it took about 15 to 20 years and the cooperation of many groups to grow the sector.

The Indianapolis 2012 Super Bowl Bid Committee says it has secured the $25 million in private funding needed to support the city's bid for the 2012 Super Bowl. A repeat $1 million commitment from Forrest Lucas put the committee at its stated private sector goal. There were at least 100 total contributors and six of those donated at least $1 million.
